Diving in the Crystal-Clear Waters of Leros

The sea around Leros offers exceptional visibility (up to 50 meters) and stunning underwater landscapes with a rich ecosystem, caves, reefs, and shipwrecks. Private diving centers on the island are available to provide you with the necessary equipment for underwater exploration.

At a depth of 20 meters near the islet of Stroggili lies a German landing craft of type "H," broken in half. In Partheni, near Cape Korais, there is a sunken Greek barge that had been requisitioned by the Italians for anti-submarine warfare. On the seabed at the entrance to the port of Lakki, huge rolls of anti-submarine nets can still be found. These were installed by the Italians at the outbreak of World War II to secure their naval base.

The highlight of the Lakki seabed is the wreck of the legendary destroyer "Vasilissa Olga" at a depth of 30 meters. This ship was the pride of the Greek fleet, successfully completing hundreds of military missions from the Adriatic to the Indian Ocean until September 1943, when it was ambushed by a squadron of German Ju-88 bombers. On the seabed of Blefouti beach, at a depth of 17 meters, lies the fuselage of a Henkell-111 bomber, along with other wrecks in the small port of Rina.
